Chinese animal activists intervened to save the life of the last dog found alive at a dog meat shop in Yulin, Guangxi province, a month before the city’s summer solstice dog meat eating gets underway. 

The dog, named Lucky by his rescuers, was found chained up outside the shop, with a dog meat for sale sign in front of him. 

The Akita was the last dog of the day due scheduled for slaughter before the activists persuaded the shop keeper to give him up. 

There were obvious signs he had once been a pet dog and had therefore likely been stolen by dog thieves.

The Shelf-Life of York Peppermint Patties

 M&Ms are amazing because they last so long, don’t melt quickly if at all, and are satisfying. 

Another fun fact is how well they survive extreme temperatures. 

They can be frozen for an extra bit of crunch, or when they are in the heat for whatever reason, they may produce a coating that makes them slippery until they cool off when that coating hardens into a semi-transparent white covering over the candy shell. That is the bit of oil that forms as a sort of condensation in warmer weather. 

Should the bag of M&Ms warm up and cool quite often, the chocolate inside the candy may develop a chalky appearance which doesn’t affect flavor at all. It doesn’t appear very appetizing, but nothing at all wrong with the candy itself. Very durable candies! 

York peppermint patties have the exact same reaction to heat and cold, except the patties can develop that chalky exterior very quickly, almost immediately, when, say, placed in a refrigerator. Absolutely nothing wrong with the mint itself, and in fact, a York mint that is placed in a refrigerator for over a month, will look chalky and expired, but aside from being firm from the cold, the mint is still fine! 

Not only that, but in it’s original silver individual packaging, a York mint can be stored in a refrigerator for almost a year and still taste the exact same.  That same mint patty can be warmed between the hands, without pressing the mint, placed in a warmed stove, or even in the hot sun, and that mint will become glossy and fresh as if it just came out of manufacturing plant! 

Don’t even get me started about the shelf-life of a can of soda…

As a driver on the road for my tiny route and merchandising assignments, I rely on C-stores. A lot!  

Always a tad pricey, I keep purchases slim, but we pay for the convenience, and these quickie stores can save a lot of time, gas, and hassle. 

When they are up to date on their rewards app, the occasional freebies are decent perks. 

Circle K at 8001 W University Blvd may be new, so isn’t easy to Google which also would be why it was so clean. 

  Staff at the 8001 location friendly, customers, too! 

It was so clean that it might be a new build, except that almost all Circle Ks I’ve visited over the years have been clean.  I really appreciate that. 

  They’re behind on their rewards app or I’d make sure to find them more often, otherwise, a friendly easy place for quick snacks and goodies, and did I mention clean? That’s best!

This month’s Google Doodle has nothing to do with candy nor critters, just makes u go, ‘hmmmm’…

NEW DELHI: Google on Sunday honoured the undefeated Indian wrestler Gama Pehlwan popularly known as “The Great Gama,” on his 144th birthday with a doodle. 

Gama Pehlwan was widely considered one of best wrestlers of all time. 

Gama remained undefeated throughout his international matches and earned the name “The Great Gama.” 

Today’s Doodle—created by guest artist Vrinda Zaveri—celebrates Gama Pehlwan’s accomplishments in the ring but also the impact and representation he brought to Indian culture. 

Traditional wrestling in North India started to develop around the early 1900s.

 Lower class and working class migrants would compete in royal gymnasiums and gained national recognition when lavish tournaments were won.

 During these tournaments, spectators admired the wrestlers' physiques and were inspired by their disciplined lifestyle.
